More families in culturally and linguistically diverse communities now have access to new resources to support their babies' health and wellbeing.
The INFANT early years program, developed at Deakin University's Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition, helps families give their new babies a healthy start to life by providing evidence-based information and practical support on nutrition and active play.
Mums, dads and carers connect with trained professionals over 4 group sessions. They can also use a tailored app to support healthy choices at home.
For the first time, INFANT resources have been translated into 6 languages, in partnership with the Western Public Health Unit. These resources are available for Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Mandarin and Vietnamese-speaking families.
Victorian Health Minister, Mary-Anne Thomas MP, launched the new resources at a Maternal Child and Health Care Centre in Melbourne's west in late 2024.
INFANT has been implemented in Victoria with the support of a NHMRC Partnership Grant in collaboration with nine practice and policy partners. This includes funding for statewide implementation from the Victorian Government Department of Health.
