On 13 August 2024, the Victorian Government introduced the Health Legislation Amendment (Regulatory Reform) Bill 2024 (the Bill) into the Parliament of Victoria.

The Bill proposes reforms to health regulation in Victoria including reforms to:

  • Improve compliance and enforcement powers across the health system.
  • Change how assisted reproductive treatment (ART) is regulated in Victoria and the functions currently delivered by the Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority.

In May 2024, the department consulted on the proposed reforms.

Next steps

  • Feedback on the consultation paper will continue to inform planning and implementation.
  • The department will continue to engage with key stakeholders on the reforms.
  • Feedback provided outside of the scope of this consultation will inform planning for further legislative or regulatory reforms.
